ONE of the best things about spending time in Singapore's bustling food markets is the opportunity to discover the delicious gourmet delights consumed by the locals that are generally ignored by the tourists because they're thought to be strange and unusual.
And it can be more than a little intimidating to walk up to a vendor in a noisy market and order something that is generally a mystery.
But I have been exploring the Singapore food scene with a local and today he bought me a takeaway cup of a delicious beverage called chandol.
It is sold in Little India and is a blend of coconut milk and palm sugar, with little green jelly worms that sink the the bottom of the icy-cold drink.
I can do without the green worms, because they just clogged the straw, but the cool liquid was tasty and a real thirst quencher on a hot Singapore morning.
