ONE of my favourite places in Singapore, the pavilion on Sago Lane in Chinatown where the neighbourhood's retired gentlemen gather to play Chinese checkers.
I could stand there all day watching the locals play checkers, read the newspapers, and have the animated discussions needed to fix the problems of the world.
In fact, I have decided that's what I want to come back as in my next life, a retired Singapore gentleman who sits on a corner in Chinatown for hours playing checkers with his friends.
